The artists worked on the design of the plaza to develop a theme integral to the landscape. Two artistic elements were included. The 5 foot square granite cube on the central axis of the main entrance has an engraved ''V'' and on another side an image inspired by engraved plaster moldings from the building. ''Tragic Mask'' is a multi-layered triangle shape 12 feet wide inspired by a glass fragment of a tragedy mask from the Toledo Museum of Art.
