Star Sphere, 2010 is designed to create a sense of a 3-dimensional starburst of space contained within an intersecting circular construction. At 11 feet in height, it is larger than human scale and easily visible from the street and campus drive. The text of the 1st Amendment edges the circumference of the full disc in raised letters, giving the sculpture a tactile surface that brings the viewer into intimate contact with the work. The surface of the work has been glass bead-blasted, giving the sculpture a luminescent, ethereal quality.
