The overall work is 11 feet tall and comprised of nine layers of limestone blocks separated by stainless steel separators, connecting the geometry of the work to the event. The relic will be accessible to the touch, and will rust over time, creating a stain of red that will deepen over time in the absorbent stone. This staining is not injurious to the stone, but is permanent and intended, a visible reminder of the passage of time as well as the shedding of blood endured by the nation on 9/11.
