The forms of the sculpture, "Current Forces," are based on the water of Ten Mile Creek and Ottawa River. The energy of a water way creates varying water depths and widths as the current erodes and deposits material. The sculpture exaggerates such forms. The lower surfaces will be embellished with images of life forms found in the waterway.
The sculpture is a symbol of the vitality of the science departments housed in the Bowman-Oddy building. The formal qualities of the sculpture, including the sense of movement, the contrast of the lights and shadows, the drama of the voids and solids and the tactile appeal of the bronze and glass, will draw people to look at it closely to discover specific references.
