ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
Waimea seen from above is a pattern of green and black set against the blue waters of the channel across to Maui. Perspective changes they way we see and understand the land.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Growing up I received a strong foundation in the arts at The Ashtabula Arts Center, in Ashtabula, Ohio. In 2003 I was diagnosed with GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Cancer). Normal survival for this cancer is 18 months, but I have made it through 22 years of continual treatment. In February 2024 I was no longer responding to my treatments. Tests showed a new active tumor in my liver. Subsequently, I have joined a clinical trial at the Cleveland Clinic to try a new approach. I am currently traveling back and forth to Cleveland, persisting in my fight for more life.
