This piece holds a special place in my heart. In the summer of 2024, I had the privilege of accompanying my husband to Oxford, UK, where he presented a paper at a conference. At the base of our hotel was a charming pub, the Morse Bar. For any British television fans, this is the very pub that author Colin Dexter spent time writing many of his famous books from the Inspector Morse series. After a long day of discovering this history-drenched town, my husband and I headed to the pub, tucked into our street food takeout, and ordered a beer. As the bartender passed me this beautifully shaped bottle, I was inspired. I had never seen anything like it. He could tell that I loved it so much that he wrapped it in cellophane for me to take home. Back in Missouri, that same bottle found a second life holding sunflowers from our backyard — and inspired this painting. Sunflowers and Oxford celebrates the poetry of simple things like shared moments and memories enjoyed together.
