Artists: Rebekah Polly x Betty Parnell

Project Statement: When creating this piece, I used a series of washes to mute colors and distort layers. I was thinking about my partner’s painting style and how we relate to each other in conversation and artwork. And, how our communication is often reflective of social justice and our roles in the community. For me, “Immersion” is about regarding relationships and communication as a layered partnership. -Rebekah Polly

My process for “Immersion” began with looking at the canvas and studying how Rebekah paints. Every time I painted, I stopped and stared for a long time to try and comprehend her work, and to become familiar with the canvas we were sharing. I did a lot of “line” work to pull the piece together and provide balance. We worked together intuitively. -Betty Parnell
