Artists: Meike Aton x Cheryl Vowels

Project Statement: Both of us have a combined appreciation of aquatic movement and wanted to produce a piece that incorporated that feeling. The challenge was to combine glass, paint and canvas, which are non-yielding elements into a fluid design. The design morphed from those materials and took on a new twist when we got together to place the individual elements on the canvas. Looking into the “blues” from different perspectives contributed to the overall design with textures and materials. We feel the piece interprets the oceanic waves and depths that could be seen as one glides over the ocean depths. The viewer can almost hear the splashing of the waves. The colors and composition allude to times of calming and that is why we chose the title: “Blue Current” for the diptych piece.
