ARTIST STATEMENT
Blending In.
This piece speaks to the tension so many artists experience while trying to navigate life with both an analytical mind and a creative soul. So often we find ourselves striving to blend in no matter what the environment but never truly feeling at ease.
I always considered myself an artist as a child, but as I grew older, my aspirations for a career in law left little time for creative endeavors. I always told myself that one day, I’d make time for those things that at the time felt frivolous and self-indulgent. Fifteen years into my career as a solo practicing attorney, I finally realized that I couldn’t—and didn’t want to—continue to ignore this fundamental part of myself. Afterall, is one ever truly an artist if she doesn’t make art?
In 2022, I stepped away from the full-time practice of law and embraced this new chapter of creating, which has included interior design, digital art, clothing design and finally, most recently… painting.
Thus far, my work consists primarily of figurative acrylic on canvas, and often features juxtaposition of color, texture and/or subject matter. This is the fourth and largest piece I have completed to date.
