Hunter’s grey Vans Classics are more than just shoes—they’re his ticket to adventure. For Hunter, who is autistic, wearing shoes means it’s time to go somewhere exciting, whether it’s visiting his grandparents, grabbing a hot dog at QuikTrip, hiking to see horses and cows, or exploring elevators and escalators.
An adventurous and curious kid, Hunter doesn’t keep shoes for very long; he always outgrows them. His pairs are always scuffed from his explorations, and the laces show wear from his habit of chewing on them. Hunter has a very black-and-white way of thinking, and to him, shoes symbolize movement, exploration, and the promise of fun.
One thing is certain: when the shoes go on, it’s time for an adventure
