This quilt commemorates my home town of Crossett Arkansas. It is a mill town dominated by the Georgia Pacific Paper Company. When I was growing up, everyone worked for Georgia Pacific after it bought the Crossett Paper Mill. My memories are of the smog and the smell, but we always said it smelled like money.
The woven batiks captured the feel of my hometown. The quilt consists of 16 blocks of handwoven fabrics and an African border.
The back of the quilt is an explosion of hydrangeas. I remember beautiful fluffy hydrangeas on the side of my maternal grandmother Clara Ford’s house. Hydrangeas are still my favorite flowers to this day.
As always there is a hanging sleeve on the back of the quilt and a label that documents the quilt. I signed it on the front.
