“Living My Best Life on the Wild Side” was inspired by my safari vacation in Kenya. Since I booked the trip a year in advance, I had plenty of time to dream about the trip while I hand quilted it. This quilt actually made the trip with me. I loved working on it in front of my tent.
“Living My Best Life on the Wild Side” measures 37x47 inches. It features a collage of African scenes — animals batiked into the fabric and happy people appliquéd onto the background fabric. The happy people and animals are Julia Cairns designs. Animal buttons and embroidered patches carry out the theme of the quilt. I used a “chicken scratch” big stitch in the border to add texture and interest. The dominant color of the quilt is teal.
There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display, and a label that documents the quilt. This quilt is one-of-a-kind.
