“Finally Home was inspired by the trips to many parts of the world that my daughter India and I have been lucky enough to experience. We have visited Kenya, China, Dubai, Bali, Italy, Alaska and most of the islands in the Caribbean. In Bali we rode an elephant. In Dubai, we rode a camel. In Kenya we saw many wild animals up close and personal while on safari. We have enjoyed all of our travels, but no matter how wonderful it was to see other places, we are always happy to return home (especially after some of our very long flights). That sense of relief and gratitude of returning home after a long flight is what “Finally Home” tries to capture.
Techniques include machine applique, English paper piecing, and custom machine quilting. Embellished with crystals on the animals.
I chose a dark teal background with gold metallic for the background to represent arriving home at night after a long journey. The bright colors of the applique represent all the wonderful things we have seen and experienced.
The quilt is based on Kim McLean’s Village pattern.
I love this quilt. I hope you will too.
