Joanna Burtenshaw is an artist whose abstraction is deeply influenced by her rich background in architecture. Trained at the Royal College of Art and the Bartlett School of Architecture, Joanna worked for many years as an architect, honing her understanding of form, structure, and space.
This experience informs her artistic practice, where she merges architectural precision with a more spontaneous and instinctive approach to abstraction. Her work draws inspiration from the natural world — the shifting layers and textures of landscapes, the interplay of light and air, and the transformations brought about by time and the seasons.
Joanna’s process begins with questions and challenges, often sparked by memories or imagined landscapes, which she resolves through dynamic decisions around color and form
