Artist: Emmanuel Eweje
Eweje Emmanuel (Ewe), born on April 4th, hails from Agbeye in Odo-Otin Local Government, Osun State, Nigeria. He is a graduate of Fine and Applied Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. His artistic journey has been shaped by his training at the Nike Centre for Art and Culture and Atamora Pottery, as well as his experience as an AIMF Alumnus from the 2019 Cohort.
A member of both the Araism Movement and the Craft Potters Association of Nigeria, Ewe is dedicated to creating profound and inspiring art through innovative mediums. Over the past decade, he has mastered the rare and meticulous technique of string art—a meditative practice that demands patience, precision, and passion. Despite its time-consuming nature, Ewe finds joy in the transformative impact his works have on viewers.
Ewe’s artistic language is enriched by the infusion of African motifs, which often form the foundation of his designs. Drawing inspiration from a diverse, multi-continental spectrum, he emphasizes African heritage by weaving these motifs into the intricate backgrounds of his creations. His work stands as a testament to the beauty of cultural expression and the timeless connection between art and identity.
