Artist: Bolaji Ogunwo
Bolaji Ogunwo is a distinguished Nigerian visual artist and master portraitist whose works transcend time, space, and culture. A graduate of the University of Benin, Bolaji was among the pioneering cohort of the Postgraduate program at the Department of Creative Arts, University of Lagos—a foundation that continues to shape his evolving artistic journey.
With a profound command of realism and an evocative storytelling style, Bolaji has exhibited in over 42 local and international art exhibitions, including three solo exhibitions—two in Nigeria and most recently in Manchester, UK. His richly expressive paintings are held in prestigious collections and notable spaces across the globe, earning him both national acclaim and international recognition.
Renowned for his ability to capture the depth of human emotion through portraiture, Bolaji’s work reflects a deep philosophical inquiry into identity, presence, and memory. His canvases are not just painted images; they are carefully constructed narratives, each layer echoing cultural significance and personal truth.
Bolaji is a committed member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (Lagos Chapter), where he contributes to the development and visibility of contemporary Nigerian art. Alongside his studio practice, he serves as a Lecturer in Painting at the Department of Creative Arts, University of Lagos, Nigeria, nurturing a new generation of artists with passion and purpose.
Currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Art Research at Delta State University, Abraka, Bolaji Ogunwo continues to push the boundaries of his craft, combining academic rigor with intuitive artistry. His works speak of excellence, discipline, and a lifelong devotion to the visual arts.
