Lúthien is the elven princess from JRR Tolkien's book The Silmarillion, which defines the world of the Lord of the Rings. Lúthien fell in love with a human man Beren, and embarked on an epic quest with Beren to retrieve a silmaril jewel from the crown of Morgoth in order to prove to her father that the love match was true. I loved reading the Lord of the Rings books and worked on the film trilogy as a credited prosthetics technician. I have always admired Lúthien as a character - she is brave and feisty and not afraid to take on the challenge of adventure. This is my second Lúthien doll, and for this sculpt I wanted to portray her as she danced under moonrise in her father's forest. Beren called her Tinúviel, which means "daughter of the starry twilight" and is reflected in her starry cloak. She wears travelling boots and pantaloons under her dress as she needs to be able to ride the mighty hound Huan on her quest.
Since the elves are from another world, the author expressed this fact with a different skin color in order to achieve the magic of the character.
