Praxis

Praxis was the first completed project for the 1% for Art program, a bill for the state of Nebraska passed in 1978. Praxis was originally commissioned for the Nebraska/Omaha Information Center through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. Praxis has since been deaccessioned from the 1% for Art collection and relocated to Hanscom Park after the sale of the state land where it was originally located.

Dan Peragine lived in Nebraska between 1979 and 1982, but has lived in California since 1989 where he recently retired as an art teacher to focus his attention on his own art practice. Peragine created Praxis in that three year period of time, when he moved from New York to earn his graduate degree from UNL. Praxis is one of his four metal sculptures in Nebraska, and is about contemplation shifting into movement.
