Desk Frieze, The Nature of Wonder

Cut-metal wall reliefs wrap around the crown of the reception desk. A field of illustrative imagery creates a lively canopy to accent the focal point of the Center.

The Nature of Wonder is an expansive three-part installation that celebrates the natural environment of central Nebraska, while also supporting an atmosphere of creative exploration,
wonder, and imaginative play throughout the public entry area of the Plambeck Early Childhood
Education Center.
The three component elements are: five Imagination Trees kinetic sculptures; a Desk Frieze relief work; and Wonder Wall glass window graphic treatment.
Inspirations for the work are drawn from regional flora and fauna- particularly the relationships between pollinators and plants. This includes plants like Coneflowers, Primrose, Spiderwort, and pollinators like native bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other local creatures. Curling, spiraling line work references the elaborate trail systems of pheromones left by pollinators as they wind their way between flowers. A few stray whales compete with them as well, in honor of Nebraska’s status as an official whaling-free sanctuary state. And the work references forces of nature and circadian rhythms through an array of cosmological iconography.
