Nancy Tankersley
Nancy Tankersley is an artist and teacher who paints mostly in oil. Initially a portraitist, she now moves fluidly between figures, landscape and still life.
MessageA common sight in the Chesapeake Bay Region is an old workboat, propped up in some old waterman home, waiting for someone with youth and energy to fix her and put her out on the water again. The tangle of weeds and brush overgrowth reminded me of the fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty". Recently I saw her again, she's mostly bones now. But a member of the family tells me they are hoping to use part of her in the building of a new fishing boat.
