I was doing some color correcting in Photoshop when I cropped this oyster by mistake and fell in love with the composition. I wanted to try an experiment of blowing this small detail and painting it large as well. Making a large painting I believed would attract 2 types of viewers. Those that don’t like oysters would see it as an abstract composition with natural shapes and textures interesting to the eye and oysters lovers would know exactly what it was and engage in the sexiness. Similar to Chuck Close. When you see it at a distance it’s a photo but up close it clearly isn’t. Although not new, I intend on exploring this concept. Very sexy.
