Once, I was offered free reclaimed redwood - but it turned out to be Douglas Fir wood. I took it not knowing what to do with it. This inspired me to developed a new bandsaw technique and I created a whole new series of work based on this new process. Flames was the first sculpture in this series. The wood came from old wall studs with nail holes, black discolorations and other imperfections which gives it a very unique character, and a beautiful contrast to the warm colors of the wood - just like a sparkling and warm glowing fire.
Finished with linseed oil to bring out the natural hues of the wood and installed on a steel plate.
This sculpture was also featured as one of many pieces at the Room and Board Art & Design Show in San Francisco.
