Destino Manifiesto

Destino Manifiesto is a phrase that expresses the destiny that the United States of America has the mission of expanding and spreading their form and democracy. Proponents of manifest destiny believed that expansion was not only good but also obvious ("manifest") and inevitable ("destiny"). Originally a nineteenth-century political catchphrase, manifest destiny became a standard historical term, often used as a synonym for the expansion of the United States of America across North America and into the Pacific Ocean.

The use of the title in Spanish expresses part of the cultural fusion left by the colonial people and which is predominant today in the current multiculturalism not only of the Filipino people but of the nations that were born under colonial rule.

In the exhibition, religious images alternate with advertising slogans from the 70s and 80s. The mixing of two iconographies apparently so distant in time reveals the passing of the baton of two powerful ideologies.
