My landscape works are often inspired by the play of light on water and tend towards impressionism as I attempt to capture the effect of sunlight upon the scene I am depicting. In Amphitrite’s Playground I hoped to capture the characteristic of the light that illuminated the lone figure as she prepared to swim in the clear turquoise blue waters of northern Western Australia at Shark Bay. Amphitrite was the queen of the sea and consort of Poseidon in Greek mythology.
