This is literally a signature piece for me. Not only is a push pin incorporated into much of my work, it goes back to my pre-CAD days in architecture when we would pin up our sketches and plans for review and presentation. I even use a push pin graphic as my logo.
Typically I’ve made oversized push pins out of PVC pipe parts (or more recently 3D printed parts) that are painted to simulate a metal finish. Now I am able to make these giant push pins real by machining them out of a solid bar of aluminum. A multi-step finishing process is used to recreate the cast appearance of the original push pins.
