Mijo At The Mac Image: Mijo at the MAC is a portrait of my son standing infant of several Native American blankets. He is a brown boy learning his Indigenous Mexica heritage, Mexican culture while embracing his American culture. As hyphenated Americans, we are often called immigrants, we are labeled as a minority and often identified as disadvantaged. We are the native Americans that aren't apart of the 1924 Native American Act to have citizenship in the U.S. because our indigenous roots are older than the U.S., older than Mexico and date back before the first time we were colonized by Spain in the early 1500s. My son was born in a city that's older than the U.S. and still not an American. We are hyphenated Mexican - Americans to the U.S. government. Called hispanic, Latino, Latina and now Latinx or Latine to be gender inclusive. Actually we are more American than U. S. Americans. We are native Americans.
