Trauma imprints chemical, psychological and sensory residue.
In 2019, I was watching the roiling waves on a blustery day at the lighthouse in Frankfort, Michigan. A Kentucky-registered van pulled in next to me. Two boys sprinted toward the water. I had a premonition they were in dire danger. But I said nothing. Twenty minutes later, one of the boys was dead, swept from the pier.
Was it Fate? Where do premonitions come from? What is our responsibility to act on them?
