Fiber and Felted Sculptures and Paintings 2006-present
My fiber work began when I picked up knitting again, bored by making the patterns of others, I began to create vessels with added organic fibers, and felting them to make the fiber integral to the piece. Discovering the relatively new craft of needle felting expanded the forms I cound make. The sculpture work in creased in elegance with the addition of curved bamboo for hanging a grouping of similiar vessels. Needle felting also allowed me to "paint" with wool. Examples of these can be seen throughout the exhibit.
When I took online classes in wet felting during the pandemic from several respected felt artists, their techniques expanded the 3 dimensional forms I could create. It also makes a denser, more stable felt fabric.
