I have grown attached to human made detritus. These forms are designed, manufactured, used, and then thrown away. The thrown away chunks of human-made materials take on a new aesthetic life as I render them into my work. The contemporary landscape themes have not disappeared, but have become the setting and atmosphere for this human-nature drama to take place. Imagine replanting these objects into the landscape much like a tree or a shrub, like a series of sight specific sculptures that drive the landscape narrative of a new reality.
More recently, this idea has evolved to include the human detritus ready made through destruction by wildfire. Rebuilding (ready-made) awaiting the natural and human forced state of things to transform it yet again to a human detritus ready-made. This cycle of the built, burned down, thrown away resources have a place in our environment whether we like it or not. For now I choose to embrace it and transform it through painting.
