This cup was acquired as a reward for contribution to "Isaac Scott's Post-Bacc Fund" on GoFundMe, which ended on October 18, 2018. The write-up for the GoFundMe was:

Hello my name is Isaac Scott and I’m a ceramic artist living in Madison, WI. I recently I got an opportunity to attend Tyler School of Art at Temple University for a post-baccalaureate . Attending Tyler will bring me closer to my dream of becoming a studio artist. Over the next year, I will be working on my portfolio for grad school, developing my craft as a ceramic artist, and immersing myself in the Philadelphia art scene.

In order to make the most out of this opportunity I will need financial assistance. The program offers a semester for $1,700 and $3,400 for the year. Housing costs will be around $4,500 for the school year. My goal is to raise $8,000 for the year so I can commit to my program full time. Any funds that I raise over my goal will be invested into my art work and put toward my MFA.

My passion for clay started in High School. Ceramics captured my imagination with its tactile nature and magical transformations in the kiln. I have dedicated the last 10 years of my life to developing my craft. I have apprenticed at the Midwest Clay Project (Madison, WI), was Studio Assistant at Lakeside High (Seattle, WA), did a work study at Pottery Northwest ( Seattle, WA), was a Teaching Assistant and Tech at North Seattle College (2017-18), was a TA for Alleghany Meadows at Haystack Mountain School of Craft (2015), and was the first recipient of the Roberto Lugo Scholarship at Haystack (2018).

Every step I have taken has brought me closer to my dreams and helped me develop as an artist. I believe my experience so far has prepared me for this opportunity at Tyler and this next year will be a giant leap forward in my career. Attending Tyler will also fulfill a dream of mine to work with my mentor Roberto Lugo. As an artist of color, I have struggled to find a voice in the ceramics field. Many young artists of color don’t feel heard and can be overlooked because of the cultural divide between themselves and their peers. Roberto has inspired many young artists of color because he is someone who understands our struggle and continually seeks to build bridges to bring artists of color into the field.

I am looking forward to using what I learn at Tyler to create more opportunities for artists of color and increase diversity in ceramics. I hope that my work can inspire people to follow their dreams and bring a new perspective to what ceramics can be.
