I used to travel past this Dalston icon a lot and was attracted to it’s bright orange sign and warm yellow tiling. When I painted Arthur’s Cafe, I never thought it would end up closing soon after as it was always popular with locals, even if they did have old-fashioned rules like cash only and no bacon after 10am. But it closed for good in early 2018 after the death of Arthur who ran it for over seventy years. It was in his will that the business was to close upon his death.
