Weather data is reimagined into flowing, cloud-like forms—scaled, rotated, and arranged to suggest movement, atmosphere, and fragility. Each formation is translated through both digital and analogue processes into a wall sculpture that captures the tension between beauty and destruction.
The data for this piece originates from the devastating fires that swept through Kelowna, BC, from August to September 2023. Reflective and iridescent materials shift in tone with changing light, angle, and perspective, evoking the unpredictable nature of fire and smoke. Seen in person, the work reveals a dynamic play of colour—fluctuating between warmth and corrosion, calm and chaos.
The surface treatment pushes dichroic vinyl to its limit, melted 'to within an inch of its life' to achieve the scorched copper and oxidized green hues that give the piece its name: Torched.
