Inspired by the devastating McDougall Creek wildfire that tore through West Kelowna in late summer 2023, Conflagration captures the dual forces of destruction and resistance. With searing orange and smoldering blue tones, the piece evokes the intense heat of the blaze and the emotional weight it left behind.
Over 10,000 people were evacuated, homes lost, landscapes scorched. Yet even as smoke darkened the skies, stories of courage and neighbourly care emerged from the embers.
This large-scale work simulates the engulfing power of fire while echoing the collective will to endure—a visual testament to the human and environmental toll of a warming planet.
Where there’s fire, there’s impact.
