Connecting you to the spirit of the Australian landscape through my expressive artwork.
MessageMichele Owen’s expressive paintings are evocative of the places she is drawn to visit in regional Australia, and the transformative effect they have on her wellbeing. Her ongoing interest is in the brilliant light, vast space and peaceful atmosphere of the Australian landscape.
Her art practice begins in the landscape capturing the energy and essence of a place in small en plein-air studies and sketches, returning to the studio to develop further works from memory. She is attracted to using a diverse range of media including acrylic, gouache, charcoal and pastel but has developed a deep love of painting with oils.
Michele was born in Melbourne, Australia. Following a meandering career in advertising, magazine publishing, communications, project management, and as a health practitioner she undertook formal studies in design and colour, her great passion. These studies reignited her early love of painting and drawing. She has since continued her artistic journey by studying independently with respected Australian and international artists and draws influence from the impressionists and post impressionists.
Michele is a full time artist and works from her rural studio in outer Melbourne. She has exhibited in group shows in Melbourne and Sydney and engages in creative collaborations, most recently with an Australian fashion label to create a textile collection. Her work is in private collections in Australia, UK, USA and Europe.
Michele accepts commissions and welcomes visitors to her studio all year by appointment and through the acclaimed Nillumbik Artists Open Studios program.
