On an early morning drive, rising nearly 10,000 feet toward the summit of Haleakalā, we turned a corner and the world softened.
Mist hung low beneath the trees, the mountain holding its breath.
There, in that hush, a mother and her foal were beginning their day.
No urgency. No spectacle. Just presence.
I had to stop.
Some moments ask to be witnessed before they’re ever painted.
This work is about that pause—the stillness that lives between movement and light, where the mountain quietly reveals itself.
