This powerful mixed media work depicts a firefighter stepping through a wall of flame and smoke—an image drawn from the real-life courage witnessed during one of Hawaii’s most catastrophic natural disasters.

Rendered with textured mediums, metallic foils, and advanced light-reactive pigments, the piece transforms under different lighting conditions, revealing hidden layers of energy and symbolism. In normal light, the fireman appears as a determined figure emerging from chaos. Under UV or low light, ghostlike forms and glowing embers come to life, symbolizing the spirits of the land, the lives lost, and the ancestral forces guiding recovery.
