Grove, takes inspiration from Van Gogh's paintings of olive trees - a subject I have explored a lot in my own work. There's something about the bright blue and yellow of this palette that feels very Vincent. Van Gogh's olive groves were near the institution in Saint Remy where he stayed a couple of times during periods of depression. A former preacher, the groves reminded him of the garden of Gesethame and were a source of strength and spirituality. On residencies and a number of trips to Italy, I have spent countless hours painting and drawing among the olive trees and find them to be a place of ancient peace and healing.
