Welcome to my collection of figure drawings, where I'm thrilled to share my love of drawing the human form with you. While studying fine art at USC in 1977, I discovered that the program didn't offer figurative drawing. Recognizing the importance of mastering the human figure to become the artist I wanted to be, I decided to travel to Europe to study.
In Holland, the birthplace of Rembrandt, I found a small community of passionate artists at the Free Academy Psychopolis who shared my love for drawing from life. I became focused on improving my skills, and over two years, I spent at least 15,000 hours of studio time in developing them. The experience made my drawings free and effortless, yet filled with knowledge as well. Drawing the human figure was my earnest passion, and I poured tremendous care into each mark. I found that drawing from life without instruction allowed me to develop my own style, free from the constraints of rigid classical techniques, which can hinder the development of a unique artistic style.
Through my focus on developing the natural contour lines, forms, anatomy, light, and spatial depth of the human form, I gained the psychological confidence needed to pursue any figurative vision. Since then, I have continued to refine my skills.
I hope that my collection evokes the same passion and energy in you that I felt drawing them. If something resonates with you, please feel free to inquire about adding it to your collection. Thank you for joining me on this creative exploration.
