This is the biggest in the smoke paintings series. It is the closest I've come to painting pure light. The transparent nature of smoke doesn't completely dissipate the shape. There is still substance to show light, shadow, depth, and form - what I believe are the fundamentals of representational western painting.
For many people reaching pure light might be the sublime, not quite for me. I loved the exploration of it and its simplicity but light is the means to bring brilliance to a subject. And I think that the sublime must incorporate human thoughts and emotions.
