I am very happy to announce that four of my paintings have been selected for Honors Awards 2022, a curated exhibit featuring works by ten award-winning artists selected from Art Saint Louis 2020 juried exhibitions. For the exhibit, there were 216 artworks by 27 artists submitted for the juror's consideration from which 60 artworks by ten artists were selected for the final show. The 60 new artworks in this exhibition have not previously been exhibited and includes drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, and more.
Wlliam Neukomm, artist, Laguna Beach, CA served as the juror. William earned his MFA from Laguna College of Art & Design, Laguna Beach, CA (2019) and BFA from Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO (1994). He also studied painting in Florence, Italy for three years. William has worked as a designer for ten years at University of Illinois-Champaign-Urbana and lived/worked/taught in St. Louis for several years.
From my artist statement regarding these paintings, "I do not paint pictures so much as I design patterns of light and shadow with a knife and brush. Operating in the shallow depth of the canvas surface, the arrangement of shapes and colors in my paintings are meant to create a painterly illusion of space. These forms reveal a wide range of possibilities to me."
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 11, 5-7pm at the Art Saint Louis Gallery, 1223 Pine Street, St. Louis, MO 63103.
