A native of Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania, Marc C. Schoettle attended the Chestnut Hill Academy and then served with the American Field Service during World War II. He continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
Although he painted portraits of prominent Philadelphians, he is also known for his landscapes and still lifes. In particular, his still lifes are considered important for their emotional impact and intensity.
Schoettle was a member of the Colonial Lords of Manors, the Society of Mayflower Descendents, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Penn Club, the fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and others.
