Haring was able to attract a wide audience by expressing universal concepts such as love, birth, death, sex, and war. Diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, he established the Keith Haring Foundation, which supports not-for-profit organizations dedicated to assisting children "as well as organizations involved in education, research and care related to AIDS."
