If you look closely at the bottom left corner, you can see the initials 'A.P.' that stand for Artist's Proof, a way for an artist to create a mock-up of a print before they decide on a final version. Part of a series, this lithograph is a proof for color plates in a special illustrated edition of the book, "Trece poetas del mundo Azteca" (1986), by Miguel Leon Portilla. Each illustration accompanied the writing of a famous Aztec poet, and with the help of Nishizawa's art their words came alive. This particular image was inspired by the poetry of Cuacuahtzin.
