Diamond-Nigh has long been interested in the idea of
repetition. Repetition of form, of space, of idea—seen here
in a very early work and more fully in his recent art making.
My woodworking, paper-making, and design studios are side
by side. Adjacent arts, adjacent skills, adjacent passions.
Think of a woods, made up of one thing, a tree, multiplied
many times and through almost infinite variation. That’s
serialism. One square of handmade paper times ten becomes
a lamp. Times thirty, a wall piece. Times fifty, a sculpture.
Times a thousand, an installation. —J Diamond Nigh
JOHN DIAMOND-NIGH is a sculptor, designer and poet. His sculpture has been included in exhibitions at the Minnesota Institute of Art, The Denver Art Museum, Yale University and
the Philadelphia Museum of Art. John is particularly inter-
ested in fusing his poetry and sculpture, the latter often
inscribed with text, and the former exploring frameworks of
space, book and architecture. Most recently he has been
working in the medium of paper—both large installations
and lighting. His designs have been featured on the cover
of Fine Woodworking and in The New York Times. John has
an MA in art history from Penn State and an MFA from
Bennington College.
