- Gerald Auten
- Untitled, 2002
- oil, graphite on paper
Artist: Gerald Auten x
Auten builds his compositions by alternately rubbing
layers of ground graphite into paper and then erasing
portions of each layer. The subtle imagery of abstract, geometric shapes emerges from and recedes into hazy
clouds of graphite creating a physicality to the artwork.
Gerald Auten is the Director of Exhibitions and senior
lecturer in studio art at Dartmouth College. He was
educated at The University of Iowa (BFA Drawing and Painting), Washington University-St. Louis (MFA Painting)
and The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (M. Arch).
His work has been exhibited widely in the U.S. and abroad including exhibitions in Teheran, Mexico City, New York, Chicago and Vancouver. Recent exhibition venues include:
The Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, New Hampshire;
