This lithograph represents Kaplan’s fond impression of
his local railroad train station, Sedgwick, which was on
the Philadelphia and Chestnut Hill line. It was designed
in the Victorian style by the acclaimed Philadelphia
architect Frank Furness and built in 1882. The station
was extensively damaged in an arson fire around 1980
and subsequently demolished.

Jerome Kaplan established a long career as an artist in Philadelphia where he was department Chairman and Professor of Printmaking at the University of the Arts and
an active member of The Print Club. Kaplan received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1961 and a commission for A Portfolio of White House Etchings for President Jimmy
Carter. He is represented in the collections of many
museums in the United States and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art,
and the British Museum.
