"Al Khemi (the Land") is a response to my respect and awe for this earth - it sustains, nourishes, and shelters us. Land is what people fight and die for. The title is a play on the word alchemy. It comes from the Arabic word for
"the" (Al) and the Egyptian word for "land" (Khemi). Alchemy is the process of transmuting one thing into another thing. The soil, rich with seed, is nurtured by the sun and water, creating something new.
I chose the heightened colors to give the feeling of the setting sun caressing the tops of the furrows and acting as a catalyst to the alchemic process.
