This Shophouse is still open for business in Penang and sits on the very busy street of Jalan Magazine. You would never really notice it driving by - but if you stop and pay attention it really is a beautiful house. The original sign (as on this painting) has been moved to the side of building - but still looks old and characteristic.

This piece so far is my largest Shophouse creation as the wood is an old shutter we found in Palau Aur, Malaysia. Luckily the old hardware was not completely rusted away as it definitely adds to the piece. It has a nice 3 dimensional look with the offset center and frame. Funny that I needed to paint it sitting on the floor as my Easel could not handle the weight or size of it.
