This building sits on a well known street in Porto near the Cherigos Tower - and has a very active history. Initially it was a store selling chocolate, tea, and coffee imported from around the world. The interesting store front sign is what attracted me - it's been beautifully restored and depicts aboriginals from various regions.
I recreated the sign on this piece with metal cut to shape - then bonded to the wood - giving it a nice three dimensional look. The wooden board was found on the south shores of Crete - and it was a nice width for this building. It's a very nice piece with captivating color and detail.
