"C is for Countess". First sold in 1898, the Alphabet series of lithographs were commissioned via a new contract with Nicholson’s publisher William Heinemann in 1896.As in most others three differing editions of 'An Alphabet' were produced in total: The 'édition de luxe' printed directly from the woodcuts and hand-coloured by Nicholson himself, Then two lithograph versions, one 'better', the other in a cheaper binding . Due to being sold to children the original E is for Executioner and T for Topers of the de luxe edition was replaced with the more appropriate E is for Earl and T is for Trumpeter in the two lithographic editions.
